Tracking what you spend
💸 Income & expense tracking
Log a transaction in a few seconds — amount, category, date, optional note. Entries are typed in by you rather than imported from a bank feed, which means cash spending gets captured too. Bank-linked apps structurally cannot see the ₹200 you handed to a vegetable vendor, and for a lot of Indian households that is a meaningful share of monthly spending.
Available in: Basic (free), Premium, Business
📅 Monthly budget planning
Set a spending limit per category and see how much is left as the month progresses. Alerts fire as you approach a limit rather than after you have blown past it, which is the only point at which the information is still useful.
If you are not sure what limits to set, the 50/30/20 calculator will give you a starting split in about thirty seconds.
Available in: Basic (free), Premium, Business
🎯 Savings goal management
Create a target — emergency fund, a trip, a deposit — set an amount and a date, and watch progress against it. Goals are separate from budgets deliberately: a budget constrains what leaves your account, a goal tracks what accumulates.

Understanding the numbers
📊 Financial reports & charts
Category breakdowns, month-on-month comparisons and spending trends over time. The useful view is usually the three-month comparison rather than any single month — one bad month is noise, three months in the same direction is a pattern.
Basic includes core reports. Premium and Business add advanced analytics.
📂 Export to Excel & PDF
One-click export of your records for an accountant, a tax filing, or your own archive. This matters more than it sounds: it means your data is never trapped in our format. You can leave and take everything with you.
Available in: Business
Access and storage
🔐 Local data storage
On the free Basic plan, your records are written to your own device and stay there. No account required, no upload, no bank credentials, and no SMS permission — we do not request access to your messages, which is how apps that auto-detect transactions read your bank alerts and, incidentally, your OTPs.
The trade-off is real and worth stating plainly: local-only means that if you lose the device without exporting a backup, the records are gone. More on how this works and who it suits.
Available in: Basic (free)
☁️ Cloud backup
For people who would rather have a safety net than local-only storage, paid plans back your data up and restore it on a new device. Note that this is a backup of records you entered yourself — it is not a connection to your bank, and it never becomes one.
Available in: Premium, Business
📱 Multi-device access
Enter a transaction on one device and see it on another. Requires cloud backup to be enabled, since that is the mechanism sync runs on.
Available in: Premium, Business
What it deliberately doesn't do
Worth being explicit, because these are the questions people ask before downloading:
- No automatic bank import. There is no field for bank credentials because there is nothing to connect to.
- No SMS reading. We do not request the permission, so we cannot parse your bank alerts — or anything else in your inbox.
- No investment advice. This is a record-keeping and budgeting tool. It will not tell you what to buy.
- No ads, no data selling. Revenue comes from the paid plans. That's the whole model.
Smart Budget Tracker is a budgeting and record-keeping tool. It does not provide investment, tax or financial advice and is not a substitute for a qualified financial planner or a SEBI-registered investment adviser.
